An early morning fire in Nadi has cost a company close to $200,000 damage. Trade Furniture and Joinery Company Limited proprietor Govind Gounder said they are awaiting a report from the National Fire Authority on how the fire started.Mr Gounder said two vehicles were destroyed in the fire.“I was at my home in Navakai when I was alerted about the fires. The damage is worth $180,000 to $200,000,” Mr Gounder said.Firefighters prevented the fire from spreading to adjacent properties- the Trade Furniture timber yard and the Vinod Patel warehouse. The authority has warned people against uncontrolled fire and also the increase in number of grass fires in Nadi.Authority acting divisional fire officer Western Timoci Ranavue said increase in fire incidents are a concern to them.“Most grass fires in the Nadi area occur in town and outside town boundaries. The NFA reminds members of the public to take extra care while burning grass. People should be very careful when burning rubbish because fires spread faster during the current dry and windy conditions. Such fires when uncontrolled can be deadly when fueled by the dry and windy conditions. These fires can pose a serious threat to nearby homes and communities,” he said.
