It was a heartbreaking Father’s Day for 77 year old Luke Cagilevu at the Samabula Old People’s Home yesterday.
Mr Cagilevu celebrated the day alone with his colleagues with only one wish which was to see his only son and grandchildren.
With tears in his eyes, he said that Father’s Day is not the same without his loved ones and this has been his second year without them.“It has been a year now since I had my last visit from them. I have only one son who is now married with children and I long for the day for them to come and see me again,” Mr Cagilevu said.Originally from Vunikodi, Macuata in Vanua Levu, Mr Cagilevu, a former marine worker has only spent two years at the home.“It’s not like staying at home. Sometimes the treatments aren’t good,” he said.Another resident, 68 year-old Apisalome Waqanisau said he missed his village in Tovu, Totoya in Lau yesterday.“Father’s Day is always about food. In my village, we always have a big feast,” he said.Mr Waqanisau is just spending his second month at the Home and he has no children.“We are well looked after here but Father’s Day just brings back memories of my days in the village,” he added.
